Faith

James 2: 14-17 "What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[b] is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." ESV

We are saved by Grace through Faith. James is not disputing that, he's saying that we validate our faith through works. Faith should produce a desire to do for others and to serve God thus works. They don't save us but they do say to others that we are. But be careful for there are those who do works for other motives and their works are not coming from their salvation but from their carnal desires. So it's not just what you do that testifies but the why you do as well.
